Sign In: Recovery Phrase and Account Sync

Learn how Wire Wallet sign-in works, including encrypted Apple and Android account sync and manual recovery phrase backup options for secure wallet access.

Wire Wallet offers two secure ways to sign in and recover your wallet:

  1. Automated account sync using Apple or Android secure cloud storage

  2. Manual recovery using your recovery phrase (mnemonic)

Both options keep Wire Wallet non-custodial—you remain in control of your assets at all times.

Two Ways to Access Your Wallet

Option 1: Automated Account Sync (Recommended)

Option 2: Manual Recovery Phrase Entry

You can choose the approach that best matches your security preferences and device setup.

Option 1: Automated Account Sync (Apple & Android)

Wire Wallet supports secure, automated wallet recovery using your device’s built-in cloud and biometric security.

How Automated Sync Works

When enabled:

  • Your recovery phrase is encrypted on your device

  • It is stored in your personal cloud vault:

    • Apple iCloud Keychain (iOS)

    • Android secure backup / encrypted storage

  • Access is protected by:

    • Face ID / Touch ID (Apple)

    • Fingerprint / device biometrics (Android)

  • Wire Wallet never has access to the unencrypted phrase

This allows you to restore your wallet simply by signing in on a new device and verifying with biometrics.

Apple (iOS) Recovery via iCloud

If you use an iPhone or iPad:

  • Your encrypted recovery phrase is stored in iCloud

  • It is tied to:

    • Your Apple ID

    • Your device’s Secure Enclave

    • Face ID or Touch ID

  • When you install Wire Wallet on a new Apple device:

    1. Sign in with your Apple ID

    2. Authenticate with Face ID / Touch ID

    3. Your wallet is securely restored

Apple cannot view your recovery phrase, and Wire Wallet cannot access it without biometric approval.

Android Recovery via Secure Backup

On Android devices:

  • Your recovery phrase is encrypted and stored in Android’s secure backup system

  • Access is protected by:

    • Device-level encryption

    • Fingerprint or biometric authentication

  • When restoring on a new Android device:

    1. Sign in to your Google account

    2. Verify your identity with biometrics

    3. Wire Wallet restores your wallet securely

As with iOS, neither Google nor Wire Wallet can view your unencrypted recovery phrase.

Important Notes About Automated Sync

  • Automated sync is optional

  • You can disable it at any time

  • It depends on access to your Apple ID or Google account

  • Losing access to both your device and your cloud account may prevent recovery

For maximum safety, we still recommend keeping a manual backup of your recovery phrase.

Option 2: Manual Recovery Phrase (Mnemonic Backup)

If you prefer full self-management, you can choose manual recovery mode.

How Manual Recovery Works

With manual recovery:

  • You are shown a 12- or 24-word recovery phrase

  • You must:

    • Write it down

    • Store it securely

    • Enter it manually if you need to restore your wallet

  • Nothing is stored in cloud backups

  • No biometric or account-based recovery is available

This is the most traditional non-custodial wallet model.

When Manual Mode Is Required

You’ll use manual recovery if:

  • You disable automated sync

  • You switch between Apple and Android devices

  • You restore on a device without cloud access

  • You want maximum offline control

  • You import a wallet from another app

Choosing the Right Option for You

Feature Automated Sync Manual Recovery
Cloud backup Yes (encrypted) No
Biometric protection Yes No
Recovery without phrase entry Yes No
Requires cloud account Yes No
Works across ecosystems Limited Yes
Maximum self-custody High Highest

Both methods are secure. The right choice depends on how you balance convenience vs. self-management.

Security & Non-Custodial Guarantee

No matter which option you choose:

  • Wire Wallet never stores your recovery phrase in plaintext

  • We cannot access or reset your wallet

  • We will never ask for your recovery phrase

  • Your assets always remain on-chain and under your control

Automated sync improves usability—but it does not change the non-custodial nature of Wire Wallet.

Best Practice Recommendation

Even if you enable automated sync, we strongly recommend:

  • Writing down your recovery phrase

  • Storing it offline in a secure location

  • Treating it as a permanent backup

Redundancy = safety.
